Last year I started a social media project for IBM called StanOnIBM. It consists of blogging, tweeting and Webcasting. At this point, I’ve built up a blog archive of some size and variety. I try to keep the content engaging and of general interest to IT professionals. I try to pay attention to what IBM is doing and how it relates to broad IT issues. My mission isn’t to promote IBM products and services, however.

This is an interesting project for me, because while it is sponsored by a single company, it is not controlled by that sponsor. I interview IBM officials from time to time just as any journalist would. When hosting a Webcast, I do confer with participants ahead of time to discuss how best to convey the information they seek to impart, and to make sure the Webcast will attract and sustain the interest of the audience.

StanOnIBM is one of several projects I have underway at the moment.
